Master Woo Myung Book – The Book of Wisdom – What is nirvana (spiritual death)?
Death refers to the end of a person’s physical lifespan. However, if greed remains in his mind at the time of his death, this does not disappear, so in terms of dÅ, nirvana or spiritual death is getting rid of man’s mind (soul) and his self entirely.
The practice of nirvana is the practice of going to God’s world, but it is done after one has become enlightened, that is, after one knows the place of the mind. It is the practice of getting rid of one’s self completely – all of his conceptions and habits from his life as well as everything that exists – so that he can discover his real self.
Discarding does not mean disappearance; rather, it signifies the discovery of the whole. When something disappears, it does not really disappear: everything remains just as it is. Such is nirvana; it is great enlightenment.
