Master Woo Myung Biography Wikipedia – It Has Taken Me Eight Years to Get People to Reach Human Completion – to Get Them to Find the True Self and to Become It
People are capable of talking only about what they know. They are only able to see, hear, and teach as much as they know.
It was back while I was running my private academy in South Korea that I came to realize my fate – that I was to teach people how they should meditate. I was a self-made man – up to that point, I had not received any help from others, and I had been hoping to live out the rest of my life in comfort. I was forty-five, and the thought of having to begin this great endeavor was frightening. I had never imagined that I would have to do anything like this. Rather, I had always planned to expand my business into a larger building; then I would go into the mountains to live in a little cottage with a small stream nearby; I would tend my vegetable garden and try my hand at meditation.
After realizing this fateful purpose of mine – that I must teach people Truth – I spent my days diligently meditating, getting only a couple of hours of sleep each night. In 1996, while still running my business, I wrote the book [Chonahn-tōng Chonēe-tōng]. Soon after its publication, over a hundred of its readers came to see me. I taught them how to meditate on their own, but out of over a hundred people, not a single one of them was able to reach Truth. So in November of that same year, I rented a small inn at Mun-Gyeong (a city in the Gyeong-Buk Province of South Korea) and taught people how to meditate. After their first round of meditations, nine out of ten people came to know the Mind. We threw a joyous party to celebrate. From then on, I began teaching people once a month; then eventually twice a month; then every week.
Because I was Truth, my Soul and Spirit had become born in the Land of Truth. In 1996, I realized that I was already Truth, that my Soul and Spirit which had become Truth had already been complete, and that therefore there was nothing more for me to cleanse. Also, because I was Truth, I realized I was destined to teach people of Truth. But in order to teach people, I realized that there had to be a method by which they could reach Truth. So in order to establish a method, I researched and meditated diligently from man’s point of view. As I look back on those days eight years ago, I realize now that they were only the beginning stages, just like kindergarten.
Those who had come to meditate with me the first time around sought me out again. So once again, I did my research and consequently came up with the second level of meditation. During this second round, I taught them the method of how to realize that they were absent of mind.
However, after having done the second level of meditation, people kept saying that nothing will remain once they die. I realized that they were saying this because they did not understand nimitta, which prompted me to come up with a third level of meditation through which people could realize that when they completely discard their selves, Truth will be inside them. In the fourth level, I taught them that the Body and Mind of the Universe were inside them. In the fifth and sixth levels, I taught them that the whole of the universe was the Body and Mind and that Heaven is here on earth. In the seventh and eighth levels, I taught them how to become the original Body and Mind and how to live eternally in the Heaven that they had already been born into.
First and foremost, I myself had needed to be enlightened of how to reach Truth, which is why I researched and meditated tirelessly from man’s point of view, for this was the key to Heaven, as well as my duty. Eventually, eight years of this passed, and consequently, the eight levels of meditation have been established which is the method that allows man to become the perfect Truth.
People often ask me why they have a difficult time abandoning their selves during meditation. To this I ask them how many years they have meditated. Then I tell them that that is not enough. These days, it takes less than five months for those who meditate at the Main Center at Nonsan, South Korea, to complete up to Level Seven. However, I have been researching and meditating twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days for eight years now. I tell them that for eight years times three hundred and sixty-five days times twenty-four hours, I have been meditating and have thus been enlightened of how to reach Truth.
The ultimate purpose of this meditation is to completely be rid of one’s self and to become the source itself. When one’s self exists, one is curious, doubtful, and has delusions. When a person no longer has his self, such doubts and delusions disappear. The meditation method allows for one to completely discard one’s mind and body and then be reborn as the Mind and Body of the source. But a person who does not is one who is trapped within himself, which is why he always feels stifled, is doubtful, and has a mind that constantly fluctuates.
In order to teach people the meditation method, I myself have had to be enlightened of it, which is why for eight years I have had to constantly discard my self over and over again without rest. I have discarded my self completely for eight years, but in order to do so from man’s point of view, I have had to battle against my self fiercely. Therefore, I came to realize that in order for man to become complete, the thought-mass in his forehead had to disappear, and the Creator who is Truth and the God of the great Universe had to enter into his thought-mass. This is what redemption of sin was, in which he would no longer have anything more to be cleansed of. I came to realize that such a person was the one who was complete.
During my years of running my academy, I told my faculty that a good teacher is one who was able to make difficult problems easy for students and who had them well-prepared for exams. This had now become my assignment in my teaching of Truth to people. At each level, I would tell people that this level would be their last, as a means of getting them to reach all the way to Level Eight. I did this because I could see no one had the tenacity to practice ‘dō (Truth, or the Way)’ to the very end. Rather, Truth was nothing more than an accessory to them – a sort of trophy to boast that they were better than others. They thought that if they pursued dō, they would be able to gain supernatural powers, such as fly or control people. But the Truth I teach is shapeless and invisible to the eye, which seems to be why it does not satisfy people’s expectations. There have been many people who started the meditation but quit. I have continued to present my meditation methods to the public in the hopes that those who quit would someday return and meditate diligently once more, for these methods of reaching Truth are also the key to entering Heaven.
Whether at seminars or during everyday encounters, people are often curious as to how I have come to achieve dō. Once I made an appearance on a TV program on KOAM-TV. The host of the show questioned me tenaciously about how I was able to be enlightened of dō when it took someone like Gautama Buddha six years seated under a pipal tree. I told the host that for eight years I had taught people, through which I was able to be enlightened of the thing which people do not know – the way to become complete.
This meditation is about completely eliminating one’s existence from within oneself and becoming the original Truth that has always existed; it is about eliminating one’s own conceptions and habits, thus becoming wholly God. Whether one lives or dies depends on one’s own mind. Furthermore, there is not a single person who will live without having died while he is alive.
For eight years, I researched tirelessly and found the way through which man can reach completion, or in other words the way to Truth, not to mention allowing people to reach Truth. For eight years I researched from man’s point of view, which has thus made it possible for him to realize countless things about Truth. It has taken him eight years to become in sync with my will, which is the will of the ‘Jung (Body)’ and ‘Shin (Mind)’ and the will that is complete. For sure, one can reach human completion only when the Creator, who is God of the great Universe, enters into one’s thought-mass.
Before those eight years, I knew Truth without needing to be enlightened. It was during the subsequent eight years that I came to be enlightened of so many things, which I then taught people of. Truth is not something that one can know; it is something that you must be enlightened of. Becoming enlightened of Truth is what one must accomplish at this moment of the Universe. Unless people are reborn as the child of the almighty God, who is both the Creator and Truth, they cannot reach human completion or become one. Only when they have been reborn as the almighty God would there be no distinction between what is one’s own country and the countries of others, as well as what is one’s own religion and the religions of others. Furthermore, people would not be able to have eternal life and true Paradise. Nor would life and death be one for them.
This is how I created the meditation which anyone can practice to become complete – to become Truth.
