Santa Clara Meditation Column – If You Have A Lot Of Questions About Your Life

Santa Clara Meditation Column – If You Have A Lot Of Questions About Your Life

There was a person who had a lot of questions about life.

“Who am I? Where do I come from and where will I go?”

“Why is life futile? Why do we experience all sorts of emotions?”

“Is there any way to escape the pain of life and death?”

“Why am I…? Why are we…?”

He lived in a world full of questions, always agonizing and struggling. Then one day, his teacher said to him,

“Your question is a matter of course.

If you have a red stain on the hem of your clothes,

you can’t help but wonder what this stain is and when and why it’s stained.

But wipe clean the stain completely, and let’s go back to the original clean clothes.

You won’t even remember there was a stain.”

The same goes for the mind.

As much as there is a stain, there are bound to be questions and frustrations.

Wipe off the stain that covers your original mind.

It doesn’t matter that there was a stain in days gone by.

When you return to your original pure and clean mind, you will naturally get to know the ways of the world so more doubts or questions no longer come up.”

What questions did I have today?

The answers are originally within me.

Don’t look for them far away.

If there’s a question about life, I clean my mind first.
