Santa Clara Meditation Column – A Circus Elephant

Santa Clara Meditation Column – A Circus Elephant

A boy went to see the circus with his dad. While watching the elephant show and having fun, the boy suddenly asked his dad, “Dad, isn’t that elephant dangerous? The strap he is tied to is very thin. I think that leash will snap quickly.”

Putting the boy’s mind at ease, dad said, “It is okay. When that elephant was a child, he was trained with a thick chain. At that time, no matter how hard he tried to snap the chain, he couldn’t. When he tried to break the chain, he just hurt his feet. Over the years, he has become such a big elephant and is strong, but now he doesn’t even want to break the chain at all. He has come to believe he can’t break free. He could cut the chain if he decided to, but he won’t even try.”

In the end, the chain tied the elephant’s mind, not his feet.

By any chance, what are you currently tied to in your mind?

You could break it. You could become free from it.

Isn’t it that any kind of memory and experience of yourself is blocking the way?

Get rid of those memories this spring.

Your mind that is not bound by anything…

Enjoy the freedom.
